Swan Sanctuary for Galway

Galway and Claddagh Swan Rescue are delighted to announce that Galway City Council have given us permission to erect a holding pen beside the 'Swan Sanctuary' container in Lough Rusheen Park, Barna.
We are in the process of applying for Planning Permission. We also have to have an appropiate Environmental Impact study carried out. The company, Aqua Fact, in Liosbaun is doing this for us free of charge! This is very generous of them. We really appreciate it.
This pen will be used to house swans, ducks and other wetland birds while they are recovering from injury and for the rearing of orphaned birds.
We have to fund this project ourselves. We are hoping that volunteers will do the work and that we may get the materials at a good price!
Maybe some generous persons out there would wish to become 'PATRONS'

We would appreciate DONATIONS!

Our Bank Account is Galway & Claddagh Swan Rescue, A.I.B.Salthill, Galway.
Account Number 03161-039
Sort Code 93-74-01

PLEASE HELP US TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT

Hi Mary,

My name is Karen Healy and myself and my children very much enjoy spending time in the Claddagh looking at the birds particularly the swans. We often bring visitors to Galway to see the swans and part of this ritual is to feed the swans, that was until earlier in the Summer when we heard that the bread was causing problems for the swans.
We have an idea! We think a proper feeding facility should be established at the Claddagh. What about a booth where little paper bags of the appropriate food is given out to visitors and in turn they can offer a donation which could be used to set up the facility, pay the person based at the feeding facility and if there were some left over it could be used for some of your swan rescue projects. It would also be lovely to have someone there to tell children about the swans and ducks therefore educating local children to appreciate having great wildlife in the city. We often visit pet farms and small bags of food are provided. Alternatively, a self service facility could be set up and people could help themselves and donate in a secure box provided. What do you think?
Regards
Karen, Lilymay and Stevie
